An access audit is a means of assessing the features of an environment (building or external area) and services in terms of accessibility. It will consider the environment and method of service delivery to meet the needs of existing and potential users, whether they are staff, visitors or customers. It is a process through which potential barriers to access can be identified and recorded, alongside suggested improvements in a way that the person responsible for the site, building or service can consider these improvements through strategic planning and/ or a building maintenance or improvement programme.
Access Audits are intended as informative and supportive documents to assist the management, and other responsible personnel, to determine any future improvements which can be made to ensure their premises and working environment are inclusive and accessible for all.
